Advent Conspiracy Revisited!

Welcome to “From the Dock,” which will be a regular feature on Lakeside’s website.  Each weekly edition of The Beacon, sent via email to those who like to get their information that way, will contain a link to the latest post in this blog.

At this writing, Thanksgiving is exactly a week away.  I hope that all of you have a wonderful day thanking God for every good gift and enjoying your friends and family.  Of course, when Thanksgiving comes, the “Christmas Shopping Season” is close behind.  Whether you are one who loves to be among the crowds at the mall on Black Friday, or one who prefers to shop from home with a click of a mouse, I’d like to remind all of us of the four tenets of the Advent Conspiracy that we explored last Advent:

·         Worship Fully
·         Spend Less
·         Give More
·         Love All

Let’s remember that Christmas is about the birth of a King who rules not by coercion, but by love.  It’s about the birth of the One whom we worship because we love him, not because anyone has required it of us.  Let’s follow the call of the Advent Conspiracy to give ourselves to others in the same spirit as Jesus has given to us.

The first two Wednesdays of Advent, December 4 and 11, we will return to the tenets of the Advent Conspiracy.  Our evenings together will begin at 6:00 pm with dinner.  Beginning anytime between 6:15 and 6:30 pm, we’ll have some “Table Talk” (as Luther called such conversations) as we continue to enjoy our meals and perhaps another cup of coffee or another beverage.  Then at 7:00 pm, we will gather for an informal service of Song, Sharing, and Prayer.  The Sharing will be an opportunity for each Table to share some insights from their conversation about the Advent Conspiracy tenets

Hope to see you then!
